End-of-Semester Recital in Intro to Piano
LCS Academy students performed two numbers today. First, a formal piece from their Intro to Piano music books and then one they composed themselves applying what they have learned about music theory from Ms. Rebecca Faust-Frodl over the semester.
The right application of symbols on sheet music can convey a nearly infinite variety of music. Symbols, in different combinations, yield Bethoven’s “Fur Elise,” “empire State of Mind” by rapper Jay-Z and everything in between. Music rallies sports fans, centers religions and defines cultures.
That’s why music is an essential part of a classical education. Just as mastery of the trivium in music empowers students to artistically express themselves, the grammar, logic and rhetoric of classical education empowers them to understand the world and to express their own ideas about it.
