Maiya Peterson

Literature and Composition Teacher
Grade 6 Literature
Grade 9 Composition

Miss Peterson is excited to be teaching 6th grade literature and 9th grade composition this year. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and completed an honors thesis in Creative Writing. She has experience teaching 4th, 6th, and 9th grade students over the past five years and looks forward to continuing to work with these age groups.

Education has always been important to Miss Peterson. She grew up with parents in academia and would count down the days of summer as a child, waiting eagerly for the first day of the next school year. She hopes to inspire students to love literature as much as she did, and to make school a fun and welcoming place for everyone. Miss Peterson is quite familiar with the Classical Education model and can’t think of a better way to help develop students’ appreciation for the beauty of life and humanity than by playing a role as teacher in their journey for knowledge.

In her free time, Miss Peterson enjoys running the trails around Northern Colorado, swimming in large bodies of water, and petting old dogs like her 17-year-old golden retriever, Indie. Miss Peterson is also scuba certified and hopes to find creative ways to continue feeding her passion for understanding marine life throughout the year.
